[livejournal.com profile] ahdok and various other people had a plan to go to the EOS larp system and play as what were essentially backstabby goblins (called Venin in system) in order to kick off fights with everyone, as he and others had gone to the first event and found that it was somewhat short on PVP.

I believe in the end we managed to get 21 people playing Venin, making us possibly the largest group on the site.

So, we got there, set up our IC tent, hauled Matt Pennington's van and the PD trailer out of a ditch on the hill, and covered ourself in makeup. I had several crazy things planned for physrepping mutations, including looking somewhat like I was rotting - in the end, I never had time to do the makeup when I'd done the green and brown base coat, so I left it.

The event got off to a good start, as we stabbed up a ranger in the first fifteen minutes when he came over to talk to us, then Colin's venin Heal raised him as an undead shade and sent him wandering back into the ranger camp. We then invaded the bar and attempted to barricade the doors. This worked hilariously badly - nobody died, thanks to some quick use of Force Choke on my and Colin's part - and eventually we blamed Paul Wilder's venin for it and threw him to the other groups to take the blame. :)

On Saturday morning we found the plot item that people had been talking about the night before - a big stone monolith on top of a hill near our camp. (It was made out of foam, and the refs had had to make a ruling that no, we couldn't steal it, as otherwise we would have.)

We then proceeded to kick the monolith, bleed on the monolith, hump the monolith, and finally sacrifice two people ([livejournal.com profile] tienelle's venin Search, and an NPC orc) to our god Destructor on it. Also lots of noisy rites to Destructor with some "Tellun!" "Dash!" call-responses in.

About noon we went to wait for lunch to be served. Shortly afterwards we heard a ruckus in the main field, grabbed weapons and went out to see. Turned out Will's venin Spitroast had got himself into trouble and either badly wounded or killed, we weren't sure which. The orcs were going to drag him off to eat, they said, so the venin complained.

Then we kicked off on the orcs because they wouldn't give Spitroast back. Then we got beaten up and most of us got locced (all locations taken to "bleeding" state, which in EOS kills you through bleed-out) or executed, and dragged off to the orc tent for later eating.

A group of us then spent the next few hours looking through the rule book for ideas for a new group, getting kit, and sorting out a new human group with, finally, NO SNAZ. :) The group were part of a noble house from Sornasia, a nation that essentially used to be the Roman Empire (ruling the world with a benevolent fist of allowing-autonomous-rule).

The refs were somewhat busy as Dave's venin had kicked off the monolith plot, finally, and so it was a while before we got our extra bonus seeding-plot-for-next-event group brief. After that, we went IC and arrived on the monolith hill just as people were being attacked by a phenominally nasty wraith (played by Will, who'd gone to NPC for them).

We waded in to help patch up the wounded, met Tim's Sornasian soldier who offered us shelter, and then spent the rest of the day discussing things with people, diplomancing, and dealing with representatives of the slavers we'd had a run in with in our group brief from the refs. Quite interesting, actually - the group dynamic was working well, as we'd had a twenty minute walk IC to get up to the monolith hill and a lot of time to discuss our roles in the group, and I felt like I managed to get the diplomatic parts done when people looked to me to do them, while being able to offload some of the discussion onto more able people like Ian and Colin at times.

Sunday was similar to start with, with people sorting out what to do about the mining town where our group had been attacked, and the settlement where some other Sornasians were causing trouble (I wrote a politely annoyed letter telling them to leave, carefully omitting a warning that orcs were going to kill them if they didn't).

Soon, though, became apparent IC that something bad was about to happen. Avatars of some of the gods turned up, Ian's priest got word from our group's god that the area should be evacuated, and we turned into Team Sornasia World Police, stomping around the site telling people that for their own safety and protection they should pack up and leave now. We stomped off, came back to IC pack up Tim's tent, and then actually left IC. As we did, the first of the "run-off monsters" hit - Will again, playing a nastily hard wraith that seemed designed to get the PCs to leave the area quickly.

In all, quite a fun weekend. However, having to arrange downtime completely before leaving the site was a little tricky, and especially trying as we were doing it before lunch and by this time I was severely low on blood sugar. At the best of times, in that state I'm quite grumpy, and the best I can do is polite conversation and going to eat. Having to deal with a new and somewhat perplexing downtime system sent my mood down into "furious ranting swearing sarcastic rage involving wall-punching", and I'm very glad that other members of the group were willing to sort out the whole of the downtimes. :)

The rules system was also a little confusing, and I'm fairly sure that a lot of this was because I hadn't read the rules through thoroughly. Setting-wise, I quite like what I came across, especially the Sornasian cultural brief. I wasn't happy with some aspects of generating a character mid-event, as unfortunately I chose a 2 point skill (you have 5 points at starting) whose main effect is to have a personal briefing sheet written for you for the event, which you don't get if it's mid-event.

However, I quite like our new Sornasian group, I can see a chance for them to grow well as the system does, and if all goes well with us sending some (quite positive and constructive) feedback to the EOS ref team, I'd rather like to go back for event 3.

That was the weekend, pretty much.

Other stuff

Went to doctor today, and was told all my blood tests were normal, which is nice.

The only other thing I did much of today was play Alter Ego (see [livejournal.com profile] theblunderbuss's latest post), and try out a makeup job for next Maelstrom.

Makeup job - face on

In short, it's as blatantly Teacherite as I can get ("Lord Sun" is how the Kamakurans worship the Teacher, and his emblem in Fidelia is a gold sun with a face on a green background). It's chosen partly as a blatant demonstration and expression of faith on the character's part, and partly because I wanted to try something new and challenging.

The actual makeup is planned to be this sun face in gold (either Grimas paint or Graftobian powder) with black outlines, and the rest of my face, any other visible skin, and my clothes in blue (I believe Grimas 304). As you can see, the outlines are rather thick and also not very good in places; I'm planning on eyeliner or similar for the eyes, possibly also for the lips and nose (or lip-liner) and also for the circle and rays.
