Two CDs of fansubs,
More MP3s
...and 6.82 gig free.
Today was strange - I got up much earlier than usual, in order to get into town to shop before it got too full. Since I was up so early, I decided I might as well wait to watch the sunrise.
Then my CDs arrived, and I gave up any attempt at doing anything. More Hikaru no Go!
For those who aren't familiar with the series, Hikaru no Go is a story about a boy called Shindou Hikaru who finds a Go board in his grandfathers attic, and a ghost with a tall hat comes out of it and possesses him... well, not exactly possesses, but the ghost (whose name is Sai of the Fujiwara) ends up living in Hikaru's mind. Sai is happy about at last having a physical presence, and persuades Hikaru to let him play Go. (For those of you not familiar with Go, it's a game of strategy that's much more complicated than chess, and popular in several Asian countires under different names.) At first, Hikaru is just playing the moves that Sai tells him to, but as time goes on, Hikaru starts to want to play himself...
Anyway, it's currently at episode 63 or something on TV Tokyo, and the fansubbers aren't far behind. I got episodes 59 and 60 today. And they were very good ones...
In episode 59 we found out that the stain on Sai's goban was a lot lighter than before. Hikaru shrugged this off, but Sai has known for the last few episodes that his time is almost done... though Hikaru doesn't seem to understand Sai's worry about disappearing. I can see his point, though. Sai's been around for a thousand years - why would he have to disappear now? Of course, Hikaru never heard Sai's comment that "God has given me a millennium of time... just to show Hikaru this match." After that, Sai's presence on Earth wasn't needed, I suppose - Hikaru has exceeded his master, and now he doesn't need Sai.
Well, apart from Hikaru being more insensitive than usual, we had the scary prospect of Ogata getting very, very drunk because of his new title and asking Hikaru if he could play Sai. Hikaru actually let him, under the pretence of a game with him, but Ogata did notice. I think Ogata when drunk is much more scary than when sober... I'm sure he was leering at Hikaru at some point. I mean, I know that some people can read almost anything into HnG episodes, but sometimes you don't have to read all that deep... ^_~
And episode 60... Sai's time finally came. Hikaru got back from the place he'd been at in the last episode, and was very very tired. Sai, knowing that his time was almost up, asked to play a game, and Hikaru started to fall asleep near the start. Then we had Sai musing on how Shuusaku was there for Sai, just as Sai was there for Hikaru, and Hikaru in turn would be there for someone else... a chain of players, leading towards the mastery of the divine move. And then Sai started to dissolve into those green sparkles we'd seen on the ending credits. His last words to Hikaru (who had dozed off with his eyes open, and thus didn't hear this) were,
"Hikaru... it was fun-"
And then Hikaru wakes up, to see the last remnants of the green sparkles fading away.
Now, in the next episode Hikaru goes looking for Sai... but I think that what Sai said earlier in the episode is very appropriate here.
"Hikaru no BAKA!"
Yes. Indeed. Stupid Hikaru. Bah. Ah well, we have a manga volume's worth of Isumi-in-China to fit in somewhere, while Hikaru comes to terms with the fact that Sai has disappeared. And it does all work out in the end, apart from the fact that Sai is gone, never to return except in flashbacks.
We're due for another opening and ending theme in the next episode, I think, as the OPs change every 30 eps and the EDs roughly every 15.
And another random Hikaru no Go thing (I'm just full of them today)...
Which Hikaru no Go character are you?
I was quite amused that I ended up as Sai. It's a nice picture of him, too.
That's probably enough ranting about HnG for the whole week now... I haven't done much else today. Went to Borders, bought a LaTeX book to help with my computing project, and did nothing much before lunch. And got a new mouse (a funky optical one). That's about it, really.
