Change to UK blood donation regulations for MSM

The permanent exclusion of men who have had sex with men (MSM) from donating blood will change to a 12 month fixed period deferral from the latest relevant sexual contact following an evidence based review by the Advisory Committee on the Safety of Blood, Tissues and Organs (SaBTO).

Very recent change, this - I gave blood yesterday lunchtime and didn't notice any changes in the donor leaflets - but a welcome one.

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) will implement the change at blood donation sessions across England and North Wales on 7 November 2011. The Scottish and Welsh Blood Services will also implement the change on this date. Until 7 November 2011, the existing permanent exclusion will continue to apply across the UK.

Now I just need to find out what they mean by "man"…
