Placebo parachutes

Are parachutes safer than the alternative? The writers of this article think that it's about time someone did a placebo-controlled study... Now I'm just trying to imagine exactly what a placebo parachute would be. Presumably just one that wouldn't open on the way down?

The best section of the article is the Contributors section: "GCSS had the original idea. JPP tried to talk him out of it. JPP did the first literature search but GCSS lost it. GCSS drafted the manuscript but JPP deleted all the best jokes. GCSS is the guarantor, and JPP says it serves him right."

Anyway, apart from this, I have been recently reading a semantics article that looks like it was written by people who'd escaped from a maths department (I started Linguistics to get away from mathematics, not to run into it again...), and practising my Japanese by, er, playing a dating simulator for the Playstation 2. [livejournal.com profile] theblunderbuss's PS2, to be exact, as I don't own one. Yet. When Disgaea makes it to Europe, I'm getting one - well, when Disgaea's got here and my finals are over. By that time, of course, most of the people I know with PS2s will be playing other fun Atlus games like La Pucelle and so on, but I care not.

Oh, and finally, I won these Chrono Cross keychains a few days ago. Kid and Leena in particular are very cute in chibi form.

Don't worry, I just managed to get Disgaea, so you won't be the only one playing it. :)

Though given that there's been no release date mentioned - who knows, you may have finished it by the time it arrives here. :)

Yes, I may have finished it, but I only truly finish games that majorly suck. I've got a character on FFII/IV that I've been working on for a good decade at least.

That's a good point. I think I'll be playing Chrono Cross for a while yet - and I've technically "finished" it, as I'm on my second play through. But you need to go through it three times to get everyone, and then there's all the equipment to buy and people to level up...

So I agree with you there, yes. A game's only really finished when you get tired of it.

I'll modify that to say permanently tired of it. I'll certainly get tired of a game after lots of playing time, but it doesn't mean I don't want to play it again eventually.

I replay games, I reread books...there definitely a pattern here.

Poshul gets what is probably the best line in the whole game. "Do you think Leena thpontaneouthry combuthted?"

Ah, I'm kind of sad that I didn't get her the first time I played. She is a lot of fun (and almost as powerful as Serge now I'm on New Game +).

"Do you think Leena thpontaneouthry combuthted?"

I can imagine all the spittle. >_>

Poshul as strong as Serge? I find that rather hard to believe, since the first time I tried her out (on my first New Game+), she was rather weak. Then again, the Serge in my game has three Power Seals (with spares) and the Mastermune-- can't argue with that...

I still haven't gotten all the characters though. But I'm too lazy to run around and dig up Turnip or any of the other ones.

Ah, that'd explain it. I've not even got to Mount Pyre on my New Game+, and I didn't buy the Prism Swallow last time (what with having the Mastermune) so Serge has a Stone Swallow and Poshul's got a Spectral Glove (made with Rainbow Shell). That'd account for the similarity in power level.

Ah, I guess that puts things in perspective. It's surprising how tough Harle is when she has Pack Of Lies and you manage to pull of two consecutive '3' attacks. Sometimes it's preferable to simply hacking them one-by-one with Lynx.

I pretty much don't have any Spectral weapons at all, only some Spectral Gloves and Pack Of Lies, both of which you can get as items in the game. I am honestly too lazy to run around and gather those darned elements I need to make the weapons. So monotonous.

* Run around, find monster
* Get element levels up (whackwhackwhack)
* RedField!
* Redwolf! (I wuv the wuffie. ArooooOOOO!!)
* Wash, rinse, repeat.

Not to mention I haven't even found all the summons yet. ;_;
